We moor along the canal near a well known white wine village called Santenay.
Its a 2 km walk into the village, over the bridge
Its clearly a wealthy village, evidence of charming gardens throughout the village.
We walk to the chateau Santenay, which has been renovated, and I spot amazing butterflies on the lavender on the way
The chateau makes amazing wines. They only use the Chardonnay grapes, and own many hectares of vines
The once moat – now used as a road
Its Market day on Sunday, not to be missed – so we cycle 7 km to the town of Chagny in rain…rain deters nobody
Fascinating sights in this 3 street market… live chickens, geese, ducks…
Famous Bresse chickens with heads intact so that people recognise them
Vegetables, red garlic, and streets of vendors selling meats, cheeses, fruit, clothes…
Celebration of the Bresse chicken
And a fabulous cycle ride along a disused railway line and now a cycle track, through forests and vineyards
Through vineyards overlooking villages..
And into the centre of a medieval village called Nolay
Beautiful medieval church
